"Ridiculously Creepy Theatre Experience" - AWOL

What do you get when you combine a shipping container, cutting-edge audio technology, sensory deprivation, and a little bit of witchcraft?

Paraphrased from article by AWOL - read full article.

Séance: Theatre in Complete Darkness, that’s what. The brainchild of UK creatives David Rosenberg and Glen Neath, it’s theatre like you’ve never seen it before – in fact, it’s theatre you can’t see.

The “show” takes place in the shipping container in total darkness. Visitors are handed a pair of noise-cancelling headphones upon entry and guided to seats around a central table.

More of an experiment than a performance, what follows explores the psychology of people who live their lives surrounded by imagery – and what happens when they’re deprived of it.

The complex soundscape blurs perception and reality, encouraging guests to believe what’s happening around them and entertain what could happen, too.

The idea is that each audience member’s experience is entirely individual...

SÉANCE enjoyed a sell-out season at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, attracting rave reviews from those who made it through to the end, and has previously toured Australia, with stints in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide.

Now in Hobart, the season has been extended to June 30 at Rd Square in Macquarie Point.

Tickets cost $20 per person, and can be purchased from seance.eventbrite.com .

Sessions last for 20 minutes. Those who suffer from claustrophobia are not advised to attend.
